Blue Flaring

Blue Flaring (or "Brûlage Bleu" in French) is a complete combustion solution developed by naTran in partnership with the MGES company. It allows technicians to depressurize the pipeline they are working on in the best environmental conditions, without any CH4 release into the atmosphere.

Because we work in close collaboration with the users, we improve ergonomics and efficiency in a stressless environment.

Benefits of Blue Flaring

Operators needed

Release of methane

✓ Flaring:
 2000 (n)m3/h for one burner and 8000 (n)m3/h for 4 burners

✓ Normal operating range: less or equal to 16 bars

✓ Upstream Pressure: The upstream pressure can reach up to 100 bars thanks to a Lamination Skid

✓ Transportability: Easy to move, handle and change

✓ Characteristics: Almost invisible and 5 to 11 dB lower than classical flaring despite of a flow rate 3 times higher, less stressful

Can a vacuum pump be connected ?

Yes we can associate a vacuum pump.

What are the uses cases Blue Flaring ?

The uses of the Blue Flaring may vary, such as nitrogen inerting. Tests are ongoing for its use with hydrogen (H2).

Example of use case ?

During a Blue Flare operation carried out by NaTran for Swissgas, the objective was to empty the gas from a network section under maintenance while optimizing the efficiency of the operation.

✓ An innovative combination for more efficient flaring:

When the gas pressure drops below 0.5 mbar, the emptying process becomes much more complex and time-consuming. To overcome this challenge, a vacuum pump was combined with the Blue Burner, allowing gas to be pumped down to below 0.5 mbar. This synergy greatly facilitated the process and significantly reduced the time required for the operation, making flaring faster and more efficient.

✓ Accelerated network aeration:

Swissgas usually injects 100% air into its network before a maintenance operation. Thanks to the combination of the Blue Burner and the vacuum pump, the time required to inject air into the pipeline after flaring was drastically reduced. An operation that typically took a week was completed in just two hours, marking a significant advancement in efficiency and optimization of interventions.

This innovation illustrates naTran’s commitment to developing high-performance solutions tailored to the challenges faced by gas network operators.
